@newt @LukeAlmighty Lmao.

This is the problem with inserting relationship drama. Can't have them happy, no conflict there to overcome. I forgot how bad this relationship was now...
@sim @LukeAlmighty if Peter Parker had a real loving gf in those films, he wouldn't need to be Spider-Man.
@newt @LukeAlmighty I suppose not. Although it might have encouraged him to continue so that he can protect her and the city.
@sim @LukeAlmighty with these hero movies, there is always a conflict between the two personas that the protagonist has. And one always has to take over the other.
@newt @LukeAlmighty That is a great point about the two personas... more internal conflict and drama there. He has to choose between them until he learns how to integrate the two in his life. In a way, it's like learning how to integrate work and home life.
@sim @LukeAlmighty nah.. it always ends with someone dying.

The only way for these heroes to have a close relationship is with another hero, but even that becomes perverse and creepy (see Watchmen for reference, where two heroes murdered a bunch of evil crooks and then proceeded to have adrenaline-fuelled hot sex).
@LukeAlmighty @newt If you have a loving relationship, then outside forces have to become the conflict to drive the plot forwards. From a writing standpoint, if you want relationship drama then it is easier to write one that is internal to the relationship. On saying this, I think there are some nice slice of life stories where loving relationships work. Not sure if this is expected in a superhero film but it could be refreshing.
@sim @LukeAlmighty @newt They should have let Peter be with the cute Slav cookie girl. I think she was his landlord's daughter, would have made for fun and lighthearted conflict.
