To be fair, contrary to Math, physics requires a lot more of intuitive understanding then math does, so this is actually quite a great test to see how a person is adapted to the envirenmental properties of the question, and not just the numbers.

@LukeAlmighty Agreed.
This one's tricky though, which is exactly why it's being showcased, and I believe the answer is 100N.

I think it might be 0N? The counterweight cancels out the weight?

@skiizm @LukeAlmighty Consider this part of the image.
The scale isn't moving.
It might as well be tied to a wall.
Then it's obvious, it will show 100N.

Another way to think about it:
Since there is an equilibrium, that must mean that the weights are being held up by a force of 100N, so that's what the scale should show.

Not necessarily. For most women, the wall is an impenetrable stationary force.
@coded_artist @skiizm @LukeAlmighty niggas, that scale measures what force you put through it, its pretty simple, there is nonequilibrium, normal force or anything, its a rope with a sensor that measures how much its pulled, you can pull on one side, the other, or both

@ergo @skiizm @coded_artist
You cannot pull anything without another force acting against you (if you want it to stay in place). That force can be either created by a wall, or by another weight. But that force will be equal to the force you pull the weight with.

@LukeAlmighty @skiizm @coded_artist those things are meant to be hanged from the ceiling, the force you are pushing against is the internal resistance of the device, wait idk its confusing.

can someone post boobs
@skiizm @LukeAlmighty @coded_artist thanks bro, my IQ was trying to grow, had to keep it in check

thats fucking horrifying. burn it with fire, and nuke it into oblivion.

But the counterweight is creating the equilibrium? If it was vertical, it would pull the scale -100N but the weight pulls it back down to 0N.

@skiizm @LukeAlmighty The scale here is essentially part of the string.
The tension on the string is 100N to hold the weights.
So that's what the scale will show.

I don't know how else to explain it.

Ok I watched the video, it shows that. Weird.
@skiizm @coded_artist @LukeAlmighty only one way to know for sure...give me two 100 Newton thingamajiggs and some rope...strap me laying down with my arms out each way to a really high table and throw them off either side...
@skiizm @coded_artist @LukeAlmighty to be clear...you do one at a time at first with like the free hand nailed down...then both at the same time (no nails)...to rank how much they hurt...
@skiizm @coded_artist @LukeAlmighty Im only kind of joking...think about holding free weights while doing a bench press but then moving your arms out wide...technically you are in equilibrium in the left-right plane...but there's a tension force you can feel in your muscles that is transferring those forces to get you in equilibrium...
@skiizm @coded_artist @LukeAlmighty so then does it hurt twice as much if you then fly rep those weights in each arm? or is it about the same...as doing one in each arm??? (im making this up as i go along)...
I just tried it and my scale says OP is gay. Is that right? It seems right. Physics is weird.
