When you’re a consultant for something like medical records, logistics, business intelligence, that sort of thing, the whole point of the work is to automate away paper pushers, so they all want to use very high level languages that let you quickly modify the thinking of the project. For years, when I was a consultant, I had to deal with these ancient projects that were written in ColdFusion and there were a very business applications that had their frontends written in fucking ActionScript.

Literally the instant the point of the software is to predict shrinkage or keep track of who diagnosed who with what when all of these compsci sperg questions like if the language is imperative/functional/logical, if it does its own garbage collection, how it handles scoping, its syntax, whitespace sensitivity, anything like that, just fly out the window. Nobody gives a shit about anything of that sort the moment the rubber hits the road and some cigar-chomping capitalist just wants an accurate prediction on the price of Red Paint Chips Type III in 60 days.
