Who thought that giving a glossy screen to a eink smartphone was a good idea?
It kills a gigantic advantage eink has.

I saw that too and found it weird. I'd still buy it though, but last I checked these eink smartphones are nowhere to be seen in my country.

@alyx
Yeah, eink phones are pretty niche. You have to import them, usually from China. I hope they take off a bit more now that color eink is a thing, however they will probably always stay a niche.
They have a second video on their channel showing it outside and the gloss looks really awful. Also the god awful speaker is a huge deal breaker for me, otherwise I would buy it.
I hope better color eink phones come out. This one is on the right track. The display refreshes surprisingly well in the smooth mode.

I'd love for more smartphones or just eink devices in general to come out, but they don't seem to have any traction outside of the ebook market. For some strange reason, people seem to just prefer shinnying as much light as possible into their eyes. There was even a LCD tech a few years back that also worked via reflecting ambient light. It was full-color and ready to use for stuff like laptops. Haven't heard a thing from that thing ever since.

@alyx People mainly like vivid colors and high resolution.
I never heard about that LCD.
