I don't like quiet software.
On Linux I can look into syslog, stdout/err.
On Android I can look into logcat.
But when something goes wrong in monolithic OSes like Windows or Mac, I panic. I just don't know where the logs are stored and are they stored at all.

The only time I've ever heard of Windows giving you any debug info is basically when you BSOD and does a memory dump.
There's also Event Viewer I guess, but if you're system is so bad you can't log into it, that's not gonna do you a lot of good if you don't know where the logs are kept on disk.

If you don't know where logs are kept on disk you won't find syslog either :)
It is just people don't troubleshoot Windows as often so most people are not used to it. Also Windows uses more "user/admin" approach. "Users" are not supposed to do troubleshooting since they can't do it anyway and "admins" know where to look and have tools at their disposal.
