@alyx i believe "tan" is the next level of baby talk. Pleroma-tan, for example
@alyx interesting, since the mascot of Pleroma is definitely a lady, but she's known as Pleroma-tan.
@alyx sometimes i wonder if i'm the only cishet person in the fediverse

@thor
Nah, most of us are just having fun, pretending we're fucked up beyond belief.

@cowanon @alyx so the lesson is: be an old man spanking a young woman?
@alyx @cowanon i don't object to being trans but it's not my cup of tea
@cowanon @alyx i'm of the belief that if men and women didn't need each other in terms of reproduction, they would be different civilisations.

@thor @cowanon
But traps aren't even trans though. Trap is just straight up crossdresser basically. Just a very good one though.

@TheMadPirate @alyx @thor I've heard shouting that "TRAPS ARE NOT JUST CROSSDRESSERS!!!" but the source of said shouting offered no reasons nor argument.

@TheMadPirate @thor @cowanon
I think femboy might be veering a bit more into trans teritory. At least from my understanding, femboy implies a bit more feminine behavior, not just the looks.

@TheMadPirate @alyx @cowanon @thor Femboy is a very feminine looking guy, often a crossdresser, often with a feminine personality. A trap is a very feminine crossdresser who passes well. Traps could be seen as a subcategory of femboys: all traps are femboys, but not all femboys are traps.

@cowanon @alyx jingle her boobies? yes. jingle bee balls? nope. nope nope nope.

@cowanon @thor
I would have figured he was the one sporting the bells. Do I have my anatomy analogies mixed up?

@thor @alyx
That's unfair, why only for the simps of heterosexual men?

@thor
I've seen tan being used for tomboys. That's why I said usually. The rules are 100% strict. Chan is intended for children and girls/young women, but sometimes you can affectionately call a young man chan too. Depends a lot of the relationship between the people.

@alyx @thor I once called a twitch streamer tomoe-tan as a joke and she actually recoiled from disgust

so basically tan is for anime and nothing else
(and also gender neutral in theory)

@ivesen @thor
Japanese twitch streamer? If yes, from her perspective a complete stranger tried to appear like a close friend and called her a boy. Not much works from a complete stranger other than san. Tan and chan are meant more for friends/close acquaintances. A friend calling you a tomboy works. A complete stranger is just creepy probably.

@alyx @thor we could just call in a professional opinion from an endearing japanese person

@mametsuko please :002lurk:
@ivesen @alyx @thor tan is basically used only by anime nerds (therefore it's not used in real life except for strange nerdy relationships). simply creepy in general lol

chan is absolutely fine but it's often used for young girls and some don't like it (but it's a personal preference)
