It's dumbfounding how even people who seem to have some medical knowledge are HORRIBLE at actually tracking news about Covid19.
And then they'll start spouting their "educated" opinion that the virus couldn't do this or that, while being completely uninformed on everything that has been studied and observed about the virus.
Stop fucking treating this like it's the flu virus. It's not. It's an entirely new virus, that infects through a completely different spike protein, and as such, can cause completely different problems.
It's not the Andromeda strain. It still follows the behavior of every other SARS Coronavirus. The flu is an apt comparison because they are spread in similar ways and have similar symptoms. HIV isn't the flu, because it's a totally different type of virus. You're comparing dogs and cats. Yeah they're both mammals but they're different genuses..
Why would you listen to the "experts" anyway, they've been consistently wrong, you'd grey better advice from a drunk homeless guy.
@alyx it’s not entirely new though. it shares a lot of properties with SARS up to and apparently including people who built immunity to SARS have higher immunity to covid.
@icedquinn
I'm not in the mood for stupid nitpicking.
@icedquinn
I'm in a bad mood. Don't push me.
@alyx The ridiculous overreach by the government and this push for vaccine passports shows what this virus was really about. It had nothing to do health. It was all about control. Moreover, the virus is not that deadly for most of the population. You are better off getting the virus than the mRNA vaccines, which haven't been used on human beings.
@pcheesie
You're a moron. Go fuck yourself.
@alyx No.
@colonelj
Stop being a moron.
@colonelj
Sure, but the cold doesn't have the capacity to infect the nervous system. So don't be a moron.
@colonelj
Comparing Covid19 with the cold is like comparing a F22 with the Wright Brothers glider.
@Tim
Because the mainstream news media treats all of you like a bunch of morons, that can't handle nuance. Meanwhile, even low-grade science outlets like Livescience or ScienceAlert have covered all of these things from the start.
@Tim
You fail at 2 things.
1) to see just how bad mainstream journalists insist at being at their job.
2) to understand human psychology. A debilitating condition is rarely as scary as death, because it just doesn't carry the same immediacy of the threat.
With "debilitating condition" there's still hope that things will improve in time. With death, there's no hope you'll be resurrected.
And if you really insist on not trusting the science because CNN and Buzzfeed aren't talking about it, then you need to reconsider your life.
@icedquinn @lottev
>where has influenza gone
If you're really serious about this, I'll have to say GO FUCK YOURSELF YOU COMPLETE DUMBFUCK MORON!
ENTIRE NATIONS HAVE TAKEN MEASURES SPECIFICALLY AIMED TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF AIRBORNE VIRUSES AND YOU WONDER WHERE THE FLU WENT?!
"YES, I DO WONDER WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO THE LESSER INFECTIOUS AIRBORNE VIRUSES AFTER WE TOOK MEASURES TO BLOCK AIRBORNE VIRUSES?"
^THIS IS YOU. THIS IS YOUR DEGREE OF STUPIDITY RIGHT NOW!
I honestly don't understand people anymore... do you think we're in some stagnant universe where new viruses can't pop up, and everything is "just a flu"? Is HIV just a flu too?!
