It's not the "spiritual" part the people want. It's the community aspect. People are just too stupid to realize what they need is a hobby, and because most atheist are ex-religious people, they're used to the Church being the major community provider.

It is purely cultural. I grew up in an argeist country, and never felt need for any of the things mentioned above.
