mpv: can play stuff in background, doesn't like playlists very much, loses position if it gets confused

kodi: likes playlists and tracks watch list, remembers like an elephant, won't play media in background

Because Android is shit and any device running it as main OS doesn't deserve the title of computer.

re: android

@alyx oh god its worse kodi is playing in the background but only when i turn the screen off and on and didn't ask it to :blobcatsleepless:

Newer versions of Android broke doing stuff in backgroud for the sake of battery life. And they still don't have amazing battery life because OEMs make the worst decisions in what they put in the phones.
>high resolution and high refresh rate displays that you barely have a GPU strong enough to drive
>enough storage to archive your entire life
>so much ram that you could run desktop grade Photoshop, except you're stuck with children dev level unoptimized apks.
>enough CPU cores that if you'd be using all of them to their full extent, you'd melt something, so instead you throttle throttle throttle.
>more cameras than you've ever had up to that point in life

If you ask me, I'd bet that about 50% of a modern high end smartphone's battery is literally wasted because of much too powerful components for what the phone is actually being used for.

re: android

@alyx man that has nothing to do with why the file browser for mpv truncates the filenames so you cant even read the episode number
