Why are people surprised? Pretty much their entire case against Harvey Weinsten was that he had power and influence. It's typical marxian thinking: if you have money and power in a capitalist system, you must be evil.

@alyx @dave power affords you certain things, like credible threats that make people do something they'd rather not to avoid something worse, so it makes sense to consider power dynamics in evaluations of some kind. The conclusion that the more powerful party in any dispute must therefore be in the wrong and punished for it is where they leave the rails.

I still find the idea of equating it to rape bullshit, as NO ONE has an absolute NEED to work in Hollywood. So he kicks a women out of show business. So? She still has a million things she could do with her life. It's like complaining that at a regular job your boss makes you do something demeaning once, like scrub a shit filled toilet. Sure, you could complain that he used his power to make you do something you'd rather not do, so that you avoid getting fired. Or you could FUCKING LEAVE.

Her being where she is in life is the consequence of a number of choices, some of which can only be made once or a few times, like your choice of occupation. What you're saying is "she could just go clean toilets" as if people don't have any amount of aspirations in their lives that they work towards in terms of education, for example.

@cereal @dave
If they so easily took the Weinstein road, I don't give two shits about their aspirations. It's like asking me to care about the aspirations of a criminal. Why should I care if you don't have the backbone to stand up for yourself?

But it doesn't really matter what the MeToo crowd claims Weinstein did. I don't believe the words of any of them. Especially not after the Amber Turd case.
If Weinstein did do extortion, blackmail, rape, sexual assault, or other stuff, I expect COLD HARD TRUTH, not the say so of a whore.

@alyx @dave so you're choosing to be retarded and think anyone should care about what you think. Do you aspire to me even more massively retarded or are you content just being retarded?

I’m gonna steelman alyx’s position and say that, especially in the 2010s it felt like, there was this liberal feminist trend of trying to make every type of sexual encounter where you could make an argument it wasn’t fully/enthusiastically consensual was rape (think “date rape” and “if she’s drunk she is incapable of giving consent”), and there is an argument that you’re trivializing rape by including the less awful forms of it.

I still think it’s rape, but I can understand wanting to keep it to a strict definition where you can never say “well it wasn’t that bad”.

@dave @cereal
The trend still exists.
Yeah, Weinstein is a scumbag. I think I've repeated this a few weeks ago too. But not because I think he raped anyone. But because he participated in what I view as a prostitution ring.

The trend still exists.

I agree, it was just that writing “is” was grammatically incorrect, and I didn’t take the time to reformat to make it clear that I know it’s still a thing.

@cereal @dave
Did I say I want anyone to care what I think? Did I call anyone retarded because they don't think as I did? Look in the mirror maybe.

Believe what you want, I personally have had my fill of MeToo bs. I choose to never make the mistake of believing this crap without real evidence. The entire world has seen these days how fucked up this movement was, and how much bullshit and lies the media spreads once it decides on their victim.
It took weeks, and potentially the biggest trial since OJ, for Johnny Depp to set the record straight. Before this his public image wasn't that far off from how Weinstein is treated. MeToo is simply much too vile to give it any credence.

@alyx @cereal @dave I think both Weinstein and the whores should be put in a gas chamber.

(Not a Nazi one bc those never existed)

@cereal @dave
Let me put it a nicer way too.

Nobody has to work as an actor.
Nobody has to work as an actor in movies.
Nobody has to work as an actor in american movies.
Nobody has to work as an actor in american Hollywood movies.

Saying that Weinstein had absolute power over young actresses that aspired in this field is bullshit. Saying that they had no choice but to suck his micro penis is bullshit. They chose to be prostitutes, to gain something by demeaning themselves, to gain a position they either didn't deserve at all or were simply not ready for it yet.

There were two parties that played this game and I've yet to see something to prove it wasn't a consensual one.
