@Godcast @alyx What is "actual Christianity"? Catholicism, Protestantism, Branch Davidianism, etc, etc? Christians, and other critics of Satanism, are always quick to claim it isn't "actual Satanism" because it doesn't meet their preconceived notions of what "Satanism" is or because they don't respect other religions. LaVeyan Satanism isn't "devil worship" so it's typically dismissed as not being "actual Satanism" by detractors who have no knowledge whatsoever about the history of Satanism or what the term even means. It's simply choosing to wallow in ignorance because you dislike a group and therefore refuse to even bother trying to learn what it means of what it's about.
Look at Christianity. Look at how much infighting there is between different branches of Christianity. Catholics will proudly declare themselves true Christians then claim Mormons, 7th Day Adventists, etc, aren't real Christians. Protestants will do the same towards Catholics. And so on and so forth. Which one is the "actual Christianity"? Should someone who follows a different branch than you do just dismiss your entire religion as "not actual Christianity" just because yours doesn't meet their standards for what Christianity is? Do you follow the Bible word for word? Well, hey, maybe you've got the "wrong" translation - my preferred translation is the only real one that the "actual Christians" use, yours is wrong, and not "actual Christianity"! Do you see what this kind of logic does - it's poisoning the well, it's completely dismissing something outright just because you don't like it and because it's different. Not just dismissing it, but completely denying its existence, preferring to deny it entirely rather than even consider that it exists.
