i have been informed that i have been accidentally cheating for the entire nuzlocke and that my trash talk may have been premature

@theblessing @colonelj
There's nothing to be ashamed about. You're not some pokemon streamer that does this all the time. I'm guessing you misunderstood the rules or misremembered.

@alyx @colonelj i didn’t realize you couldn’t use potions. ): apparently it was an unspoken rule (god only knows how many others there are)

@theblessing @colonelj
I was familiar with the whole nuzlocke thing, and watched a few streamers do a 1v1 or 3way challenge, but I haven't heard of the no potions rule. It might not even be one of those things that everyone follows anyway.

@alyx @colonelj well these nerds apparently decided in secret to not use potions and also not tell me. here i thought they just sucked at pokémon. i talked a lot of yang. :blobsweats:

@theblessing @colonelj
As I suspected, normal nuzlocke allows potions. The no-potions is an optional modifier you can take if you want an extra challenge. (but it's probably not something you should do unless you're already experienced enough with the nuzlocke format).
If you want something extra, I'd go towards randomizers first, before doing something like no-potions.

Another source doesn't mention potions at all, but does mention other modifiers you can choose for your nuzlocke.

@alyx @colonelj hey, thanks for the sources. o: i’m going to see what the kiwis say!!
@theblessing @alyx @colonelj No potions is pretty much the standard for nuzlockes now. Only battle/held items.

Yeah, the standard for people that have been doing this over and over again, for multiple Pokemon generations.
As it is with many such gaming niches, I'd bet the nuzlocke community is mostly comprised of the same people that ended up isolating themselves in an echo chamber, where they keep upping things, because they refuse to play something else, and they've managed to learn literally everything about these games.
And when someone new tries to come around, they'll look down on them for not being on their level immediately, even though they themselves have been doing this for entire Pokemon generations.

It's unreasonable to put this standard on someone who takes up the challenge first time. When every possible online resource on nuzlocke says nothing about no-potions, saying that this is a standard is bullshit. And anyone insisting upon it, is a jackass in my book.

@alyx @colonelj @theblessing Jeebus, don't get your panties in a bunch. I was just trying to help. Idk much about them but I've seen a few and was giving my input. I'm pretty sure the nuzlocke community is all on board for other people getting into it. There's elitist faggots in literally anything that has a scale of skill. It would be cool for blessing to pull off a hard-core when everyone else is doing regulars. Also read that I wasn't 100% on the rules and shit and recanted about it being the standard like a post later?
