i have been informed that i have been accidentally cheating for the entire nuzlocke and that my trash talk may have been premature

There's nothing to be ashamed about. You're not some pokemon streamer that does this all the time. I'm guessing you misunderstood the rules or misremembered.

@alyx @colonelj i didn’t realize you couldn’t use potions. ): apparently it was an unspoken rule (god only knows how many others there are)

@theblessing @colonelj
I was familiar with the whole nuzlocke thing, and watched a few streamers do a 1v1 or 3way challenge, but I haven't heard of the no potions rule. It might not even be one of those things that everyone follows anyway.

@alyx @colonelj well these nerds apparently decided in secret to not use potions and also not tell me. here i thought they just sucked at pokémon. i talked a lot of yang. :blobsweats:

@theblessing @colonelj
As I suspected, normal nuzlocke allows potions. The no-potions is an optional modifier you can take if you want an extra challenge. (but it's probably not something you should do unless you're already experienced enough with the nuzlocke format).
If you want something extra, I'd go towards randomizers first, before doing something like no-potions.

Another source doesn't mention potions at all, but does mention other modifiers you can choose for your nuzlocke.

@alyx @colonelj hey, thanks for the sources. o: i’m going to see what the kiwis say!!
@theblessing @alyx @colonelj No potions is pretty much the standard for nuzlockes now. Only battle/held items.
@Utility @alyx @colonelj well i’m a noob :comfytears: i asked them to make a list of all the rules.
@theblessing @alyx @colonelj
https://youtu.be/vsCL4JondeU should only need the first minute or so and he tells the rules. Maybe it's just Hardcore but I've seen a lot of people go by these.
@Utility @alyx @colonelj thank you.. i’ll take a watch after work so i can be more pro. it’s not fun if i can’t justify trash talk. x;

@Utility @colonelj @theblessing
Hardcore nuzlocke is not the same thing as nuzlocke. This is disingenuous bullshit. You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to deceive people. You're the type of elitist gamer jackass that I hate, and the reason why I refuse to play multiplayer. Go shove a rusty pipe up yours.

@alyx @Utility @colonelj @theblessing uuuhhh well first off it's a made up challenge for a kids game so any arguemnt is severely autistic but...

A) we were playing with HC rules. Including the overleveling and species clause and others. We could have been more clear, but everyone else was on the same page. Her being on a different one fundamentally did not matter and we all had a cuckle.

B) I've still never heard of a nuzzloke with items in battle as the default rule, I've always seen that as a modification. Still, it's a funny challenge on a randomized kids game so it doesn't matter

@kier @Utility @colonelj @theblessing
> I've still never heard of a nuzzloke with items in battle as the default rule, I've always seen that as a modification
I don't believe you. Not one bit.

@alyx @Utility @colonelj @theblessing even non nuzzloke stuff like solo runs almost always have set mode and items off. But again, nobody in our group cares. She was doing gyms 4+ levels lower than is and we were wondering how it was possible (still pretty cool because the third gym randomizer was dragon type). Nobody But you has any strong feelings about this, or any feelings at all.

@kier @Utility @colonelj @theblessing
There we go with more elitism bs. "solo runs? Oy, you need set mode and items off, because I randomly decided that's how everyone everywhere does it, without citing anything and pulling it out of my... ".

@alyx @Utility @colonelj @theblessing I never said our way was the only way or even the only respectable way. Did you even read where I said what she did was equally impressive? We all sat down with a set of rules, the most commonly used set that 3/4 of us were most familiar with, and admittedly didn't explain them well enough. The trash talk is just that... trash talk. We've all been insulting each other all run.

Let it also be known, our rules are absolutely bullshit. Every gym we kick pokemon off each other's team and then fake throw a hissy fit or hold memorials. This is all a joke to begin with.
@kier @alyx @Utility @colonelj um there was nothing fake about that hissy fit; makuhita is my boy and i almost cried when you ruthlessly killed him >_>
@kier @alyx @Utility @colonelj here i thought twenty years of playing pokémon finally paid off

@Utility @colonelj @theblessing
>the standard for nuzlockes
Yeah, the standard for people that have been doing this over and over again, for multiple Pokemon generations.
As it is with many such gaming niches, I'd bet the nuzlocke community is mostly comprised of the same people that ended up isolating themselves in an echo chamber, where they keep upping things, because they refuse to play something else, and they've managed to learn literally everything about these games.
And when someone new tries to come around, they'll look down on them for not being on their level immediately, even though they themselves have been doing this for entire Pokemon generations.

It's unreasonable to put this standard on someone who takes up the challenge first time. When every possible online resource on nuzlocke says nothing about no-potions, saying that this is a standard is bullshit. And anyone insisting upon it, is a jackass in my book.

@alyx @colonelj @theblessing Jeebus, don't get your panties in a bunch. I was just trying to help. Idk much about them but I've seen a few and was giving my input. I'm pretty sure the nuzlocke community is all on board for other people getting into it. There's elitist faggots in literally anything that has a scale of skill. It would be cool for blessing to pull off a hard-core when everyone else is doing regulars. Also read that I wasn't 100% on the rules and shit and recanted about it being the standard like a post later?
