We don't know yet if the new mutation has any effect on how/if the vaccine works. It is speculated that it could render it useless because of where in the virus the mutation occurred, but it's not a guarantee. It's still possible the vaccine works just as well. Further analysis is currently required.

@camedei456
1) A new mutation IS in the wild. It's already responsible for most new Covid cases in UK, and undoubtedly it already made it's way in every country worth living in.
2) While new mutations happen all the time, this one is concerning because it happened in a particular spot that has the potential of making currently finished vaccines completely useless. Is this the case? We don't know yet. It might very well have no effect of how well the vaccine performs. Expect a bit of panic because of this uncertainty until analysis on this new strain is complete.

As for how effective measures were, first I don't have enough knowledge about the US situation to be able to analyze things. There are gonna be countless variables that make comparing one US state to another useless.
From what I can tell in my own country, measures do work. We were in a massive spike leading into December 1st. Here, 30th of November and 1st of December are important national holidays, and people usually go on short vacations or interact more with others. Basically a good opportunity for people to get infected. Measures were taken though just prior to this period, and instead of growth of cases we're currently on a slow decline.

@NaiJi
Just had a better idea. Can you install Wine on WSL?
Imagine issuing that command, but from WSL instead.

@NaiJi
... This is how you turn Linux users into mass murderers.

Even the "“The President only wants his name on a check..." is a load of rubbish. They wanted the stimulus to be packaged with their ideological shit. Their "green deal", their "intersectionality" and all that. They wanted to use "government" money to further their political goals, and then you'd have to pay the public debt for the indoctrination that turns you into public enemy #1.

@matana
Hint: when you don't give a shit, don't actually respond again to posts. It works wonders. And especially don't respond again with "I don't give a shit".

@matana
>I can't reason with something that hasn't been presented properly.
You could have always asked for a better explanation of what he meant, citations, etc., instead of acting like an idiot.

>but a faulty argument deserves faulty rebuttal
You still need to prove his argument is faulty. From the perspective of anyone seeing the thread, we're just gonna see your faulty "rebuttal" and no actual argument for why his position is faulty.

>Not to mention that if you aren't interested
Why should I be interested when you so arrogantly proved your ignorance. Imagine if someone basically admitted they knew absolutely nothing about how electricity works. Now would you ask this person for tips regarding how to install a sensitive electrical appliance?

>If you think I am going to present actual arguments against such pieces of comedy as "women destroy civilizations"
At least he presented something to defend that statement. All you're doing is saying: "that's just silly because I say it's silly". Do you not see how this is putting you in a position of looking like the ignorant one? Maybe you're not ignorant. Maybe you really are big brain. But saying his argument is a "piece of comedy" implies you could refute it in your sleep, and yet you don't... because what? Reasons?

@matana
Now I'm just waiting to see where in his post is the fallacy. Cause in his argument, the "countless cases" aren't people believing an idea/hypothesis/theory. They are examples of successful predictions/explanations of a certain model.
And you claiming there's a fallacy in there, is like saying the theory of gravity is just "Argumentum ad populum" if it's successfully used to explain how people end up falling to their death (instead of flying) if they jump off roofs.

Now, if you have evidence that contradicts the theory/model he's talking about, that fine. Present it to whoever is interested to hear it. But considering how badly you bungled up "Argumentum ad populum", I'm not gonna be one of them.

@matana
So then you don't know what "Argumentum ad populum" means.

>username: kittens
>no actual cats on their profile
I feel betrayed.

@matrix
I'm just gonna assume that it stands for CyberPunk. I don't what to consider the possibility that someone out there reviews the other possibility of what CP stands for.

@coolboymew
>Then I hate you with every millimetre of my being.
And once again, the metric system proves it's superiority.

This makes me want to play a high luck build in Fallout. Maybe a combination of high luck, high charisma, since that can have interesting results too.

Nothing can contain that. It would be foolish to even try.

@TheMadPirate @Orakel
Hhmmm... do they think vaginas are all knowing or all-powerful? I'll have to analyze this more. Vaginas definitely play a major part in this, not sure if they ultimately hold the god status, or something more similar to a saint, or magical item of worship.

@TheMadPirate @Orakel
Yup. I can even put it in terms that would appeal to feminists: The reason rape outrages men, is because this outrage is rooted in men's feelings of ownership of women's bodies. So when a man rapes a woman, he is basically stealing another man's property.

But yeah, it generally has to do with the fact that men didn't have a mechanism to ensure a child was theirs. A woman that gives birth, knows the child is 100% theirs. But a man can't have that certainty. So it ties back to that fear of the woman cheating on them, and ending up raising someone else's child. Which would be a major detriment to the spread of his genes (the basis of the evolutionary competition).

Infidelity is such a major concern in the animal kingdom, that some animals evolved mechanisms to ensure a female can't be impregnated by a different partner after the original one did the deed, or methods to kill the sperm of other males etc. Only mechanism human males have is jealousy. And whether it's a woman's infidelity or rape, the effect is similar: you can no longer be sure who's the father of the child.

Combine this with the outrage felt because, as you've said, the rules of the game are being broken, and someone is potentially putting you in a position of raising their biological offspring, giving them an unfair advantage, and of course you're gonna want to fucking punish the bastard responsible.
