I remember in the earlier smartphone days, Sony would use rubber plugs on usb port for water resistance. And I've seen something like that in even earlier LG feature phones. Don't remember seeing a sliding door thing on anything.

While interesting, you'd need to add way too many hardware switches to a phone. You could also go with 1 hardware switch for all privacy things, but it would be less useful. Overall, I don't think it works that well.
Still, phones really shouldn't be afraid of using hardware buttons in general.

Now that I think about it, I see a parallel between how USA and how my own nation formed.
Romanians pride themselves with being the descendants of conquering Romans that took over Dacian lands.

We don't necessarily identify with Romans per say, as we see ourselves as a people that has always occupied this land, and not as an occupier culture. But we take pride nonetheless that Romans had to fight significant battles to take the land, and that through the mixing of Roman and Dacian culture and genetics Romania was formed.

Americans don't think of themselves as Europeans, but Europeans did conquer the land. Culture and genetics did and are still mixing. And Americans are their own people for whom USA is their homeland.

There's nothing wrong with Americans being prideful of their history, as they are not the conquering Europeans. Americans are their own people, just like Romanians aren't the conquering Romans.
