I don't think I agree. I think people hope they will get away, but I don't think any of them are 100% sure nothing will happen to them.

Interestingly enough, this might be an argument for more police intervention during riots and protests. Don't let the participants ever think they can get away with damaging property and creating chaos.

I've been mostly skimming through the video. And there's something that bugs me. Are they being told "you can break everything with no consequences"? Cause I think that might influence behavior.

When I break something at home, I know there are consequences. At the very least I have to clean up what I break, or I need to replace it. Outside, if I break something that doesn't belong to me, there's again the consequence of paying for it or getting in trouble with the police.
I think knowing 100% sure that you will suffer no repercussions will change behavior.
In the experiment, where they breaking just enough to calm their need to break something, or where they going above and beyond just because they could?

Lol, I think the guy was kneeling because he was preparing to fire the grenade. The protesters just mistook the behavior as something else and wrongly thought it was safe to approach. Pretty sure that grenade would have gone off irrelevant of what the protesters did in those 10-20 seconds.

That's never really been how it worked for me I guess. Sure, I'm still angry after I break something, but I stop feeling the need to break something else quite fast. I don't remember a moment where I broke something, got even angrier, and continued breaking more and more stuff.

I can agree that looters aren't political for most part. But I haven't mentioned looters till now.
Anarchy is always something being advocated for in these riots. And people advocate for anarchy by creating anarchy and chaos. Don't ignore it.
