If you want to argue that there's gonna be a minority of people in a dictatorial regime that have it good, sure, that's true for communism too. There were those in the Communist Party here too that lived well enough. But the average men, the normie, will know better. But you're gonna have a hard time to find a majority in such countries that weren't aware of the fucked up things that were going on in the background. They just end up living in denial while things go down, because ultimately they're terrified to speak up. And people have this false impression that if they don't say anything, the authoritarian state will leave them alone.

There's something I don't understand...

I'd trust a German or Italian telling me how fucked up shit can be within a Fascist state. Even if someone didn't live during the times of Nazi Germany, or Fascist Italy, the horrid stories do pass from grandparents to parents to children. People in such countries have a better understanding of how a fascist state works than, for example, people from UK, that have only seen fascism from the outside.

So why don't people trust People from Eastern Europe that lived under communism for many decades, much closer to the present day than when Fascism existed? When we tell you that communism doesn't work, why won't you believe us, when we already went through this horrible experiment? Our collective memories of the crimes of communism are clearly much fresher than the collective memories of Nazi Germany.

So why this double standard in how serious you take the testimonies of fascist horrors, but deny the ones of communism, and accuse us of not remembering right, or being factually wrong somehow? It's been almost 80 years since Nazism ended. How do you know you're not misremembering how bad fascism is? How do you know the true beauty of fascism hasn't been muddied up by so much passage of time?

It's barely been 31 years since communism ended where I live. Don't you think we might know better?

That's because the doctor example is a strange straw man he made. What happens in a communist regime is that if the state decides it needs more workers in X field, it will pressure or even force people to go into that field. If Cuba's dictators decide they need more doctors, trust me, Cube WILL have doctors. If a different communist nation decides they need agricultural workers, and not doctors, you might be denied going into medicine and be steered into agriculture.

I love how you accuse others of having swallowed propaganda, when you're the one talking out of your ass. In Communism you don't get to choose what you do for a living. If the Communist state decides what it needs is more agricultural workers, you can be sure agriculture is the field the state will "encourage" you to join.

Your doctor example is strange, because if anything, a communist regime is more likely to pressure people into the field if, whether they like it or not, if they deem that more doctors are needed.

What you don't get in a communist regime on the other hand is people being freely allowed to have careers in entertainment. You're gonna object of course, and say artists still exist in communist nations, and that's true somewhat. But they're not free to produce whatever they want, they're freedom of expression is extremely limited and they are used by the state to produce propaganda. At the same time, they are limited in the remuneration they can receive in exchange of their artistic work. If you make too much money, the state sees you as "lecherous", and forcefully puts you to work in a factory, instead of letting you work as an artist.

Some of the stranger still effects of communism on entertainment can be seen in how China participates in olympic gymnastics. They have every girl they can try out to see if they have some inherent talent, and once they identify the ones with olympic potential, they torture-train them non-stop. They don't get to quit, they don't get to pursuit another career, they MUST become gold metal gymnasts as it is demanded by the state, or else...
