@Mr_NutterButter
1) fuck, I'm old.
2) This just proves XP is superior. People just naturally yearn for its aesthetic without even knowing it.
Just like Minecraft proves that children yearn for the mines.
@SuperSnekFriend
P.S. I really appreciate that you put the link to a digital version of the book.
@SuperSnekFriend Operation has numerous meanings, not just medical operation. The military uses the word operation for their missions. He could just be using it as a synonym for "stunt". And since language changes over time, I don't think either of us knows for sure how it was used back then.
From what I know of animals, they're gonna struggle vigorously if you just try to hold them down for extended periods of time. And two kids fumbling about to how to tie something to a dog, that's gonna take time and annoy it.
I've seen dogs soft bite (play bite) at just getting annoyed or harassed. I just don't see a world where this dog wouldn't have bitten the kids when exposed to that kind of pain. Doesn't matter how well trained the animal is, when it starts becoming a matter of life and death, it's gonna use all the weapons it has.
You could argue I guess that Lincoln included "it bit us" in the "struggled vigorously", but if I were the write this, I'd definitely directly mention the worst of the dog's retaliatory actions. So if the dog had taken a bite, I would clearly say "and the fucker bit me".
Honestly, even my best case scenario is pretty odd behavior, to say the least. Actually, considering we would be talking about the hide of a freshly skinned raccoon, it is straight up disturbing on its own. I'm about 50/50 between the two possibilities. But if he admits to other similar disturbing acts, I'd be much more inclined to believe the worst case scenario.
@SuperSnekFriend
In best case scenario, I can interpret this as they sewed/tied the raccoon hide like improvised clothing. Made some kind of improvised straps or belts to hold the hide onto the dog.
Worst case scenario, we're talking about literally sewing the hide onto the dog's skin. I'm inclined to not believe this option, because holly fuck, imagine the pain! I don't think the dog would have just struggled against this. It would have bitten the hell out of the kids.
But if this latter version is what actually happened, I have to ask, was Lincoln an actual sociopath?
@Mr_NutterButter Maybe because it reminds you of XP days. Can't say that I blame you. I have a high res version of the original Bliss somewhere around.
@PinochetsCommieCopter
Oh yeah, I definitely remember my last time when I lost an online game and went on to kill a child. /s
I'm not surprised that these crimes keep happening. I'm surprised that the police are stupid enough to believe such bullshit.
@camedei456 @PinochetsCommieCopter
That's the one. Best meme.
@PinochetsCommieCopter
I haven't finished watching it yet, but why does it feel like it's one of those "selling hamburgers?" cases?
@j @icedquinn
Uh huh... Sure. Let me ask you something. How many mirrors do you think a Kenyan household has on average?
I'm sure the study is accurate, because it does make sense when you realize children from US or Canada are gonna come across far more mirrors and shiny surfaces on a daily basis, and get a chance to "exercise" their ability to recognize what is going on in those reflections.
Maybe you think this proves something about the inherent genetic potential for intelligence in people from Kenya, or Peru, or whatever. But I think the title referencing culture is more accurate. When you live in poverty, in dirt houses, you're not gonna have the privilege to play with shiny mirrors. So a cultural effect.
Sounds like a freak decided to leave the Linux project on his own. Good.

Amazing if true.

@j I don't get it. Is this supposed to be a joke, or just straight up racism?
@icedquinn @djsumdog @r000t @picofarad
Do you remember when fact checker sites started being a thing? Cause I remember still being very interested in the Atheist scene when I heard about it. So it would likely have been in a time period when I still thought Obama and the Democrats were the bee's knees.
I remember thinking it was a terrible idea, and that by default you can't have an organization that decrees what is "The TRUTH™️ ". No single person or organization can decide what is true. I just saw it as a infiltration point for corruption and authoritarianism.
@djsumdog @icedquinn @r000t
"Reality has a liberal bias"
Up to early 2010s, I used to hear this said unironically all the time. And from people with far more prestige than random reddit accounts.
Can't say I gave it any attention as to when people stopped saying it, but I don't remember the last time I heard it. It can't have been anytime soon.
Now I hear Tim Pool say something similar "truth has a right wing bias these days", and I cringe every time, because I've seen enough of history to know one day this will again change.
@a1ba So what imaginary problem is this trying to solve?
Apparently Vance criticized my country for cancelling elections based on flimsy suspicious of Russian interference. And he's kinda right.
The accusations against Russia are quite serious. But the evidence we have so far is lousy. We have strong signs that Călin Georgescu, the candidate who was supposedly Russia's tool, did campaign financing fraud. And that's not gonna be hard to prove when the moron had the balls to declare in official papers that he spent $0. That's right, he reported to the agencies that track these things that he spent nothing to campaign. Riiight.
The problem is, I'm not sure if this crime itself is enough to merit cancelling the elections the way they were. So we still need to prove that Russian meddling.
There is some evidence so far, of a TikTok network of foreign IP accounts that botted to create fake hype for the guy. But there's still no clear tie to Russia, even if the modus operandi looks like it.
And considering how bad our prosecutors are at digging up evidence, I honestly think we're kinda fucked. The people are very unhappy.
@Turkleton Who doesn't like a bit of extra radiation to spice up their lives.
