I used to think Black History month was a bit stupid. Apparently our Parliament thought it was a good idea to dedicate an entire school class to studying the jewish holocaust.

I understand and would approve of a chapter in history textbooks dedicated to the holocaust, or to genocides and similar atrocities in general.

But an entire class, that would take an entire school year, on a narrow subject, in a country that is far from being a major player in what happened at that time, and that doesn't have a visible issues with anti-semitism or fringe racist ideologies (like neo-nazism)... I'm sorry, but this is just absurd.

Why do people still say "it's the best thing since sliced bread"? Surely since better things than slice bread have been made, shouldn't the saying have evolved by now? Why does no one say things like "it's the best thing since internet" or something?
