I still don't understand how the global feed works here on fedi

@Jazzy_Butts the federated timeline? it has every post from every account that gameliberty is aware of, regardless of their instance.
an instance can only find people if one of the users interacts with them in some way, even just seeing them replying to someone else's post. if you were to make a new instance right now, you wouldn't see anything at all on the federated timeline until you started following people, looking at their posts, etcetera. the network grows exponentially after that.
i'm relatively new to this stuff so i'm not sure if that's how it works EXACTLY but that's essentially it.
@Jazzy_Butts since there are way more japanese users on pawoo, they are much more likely to interact with other instances that have a lot of japanese people on them so it makes sense that the federated timeline would have mostly japanese there.
@beardalaxy Ah I thought it was everything, not just what gl.c was aware of. That explains why on pawoo it was almost all Japanese.
