@WolfJay @matana Nintendo has released plenty of games that Playstation, particularly in the west, has either censored or refused to release entirely. Smash is censored because it's rated E10 and they wanted to appeal to as wide of a crowd as possible. Censoring a rated M game is just ridiculous as long as it doesn't cause the game to go into AO territory.

Nintendo doesn't make the most powerful consoles out there because they already exist. Xbox and PS can compete for those. I don't think Nintendo games particularly suffer any more than PS/Xbox games do, but third party games do for sure. Nintendo is more focused on making unique hardware, as they have been since the Wii. They fill a niche in the market and because of that they usually come out pretty successful. I mean, look at the handheld market. It's completely dominated by them. PS had the PSP/Vita but they got relatively little support compared to the DS/3DS.

Carts had different advantages compared to CDs, namely the loading time and durability. There are two reason a lot of devs went with CDs at the time: FMV and CD audio. Everything else, the actual game code itself, could fit on an N64 cartridge, as is evidenced by Resident Evil 2's port that actually has more content (and all the FMVs/audio intact, although at a lower quality).

PS1 had its own drawbacks, with stuff like that awful texture warping. You can't really point to the existence of CDs and say that it's the better console. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Then in the Gamecube era this was remedied, with the mini DVDs able to carry pretty much all the necessary data for games. The GC was more powerful, too.

Joycon drift is abhorrent, especially because the fix is so easy (just place a piece of cardstock behind the mechanism and no more drift). They're some of the shittiest controllers out there, but they were made to be portable and in general are pretty technically outstanding. The HD rumble is pretty nice too. They are just a little too ambitious for their own good IMO. They needed to be made bigger. Let's not forget about how many people had battery issues and their analog sticks wearing off with the DS4. Thankfully I haven't had these issues, but I tend to take really good care of my stuff. The PS3 controllers also had a lot of problems with the control sticks getting stuck. If we're talking controllers though, I think the Gamecube and Wii U Pro controllers are the greatest of all time, with the DualShock 4 right behind them. The DualSense feels super wonky to hold, imo, but I know most people don't have that same opinion.

My point is that they both excel in different areas. I wish PS wasn't so hellbent on censoring stuff that's supposed to be for a mature audience just because it comes out of Japan, and I do wish that the Switch was more powerful, but at the time that thing came out it was about as powerful it could be without the battery taking a nose dive. It's just a different way to play.

Both systems are complete ass at backwards compatibility, and with PS1/PS2 games you have to pay a fee for the online service just as you have to with Nintendo's for NES-N64. At least you get a wider array of games with Nintendo, but yes the online capability of that console sucks ass (except in Mario Kart 8 for some reason, never had issues there). Personally, I don't play online and don't even have the membership at all so it doesn't affect me. If I want to play an online game I'll just play it on PC where there are no paid requirements at all and I can emulate whatever the fuck I want to (which, funny enough, Xbox is really good for too).

I PERSONALLY don't like PS games as much because they lack the quick and snappy gameplay that I so adore from Nintendo, with super polished gameplay loops and inspired design, but I can understand why people like the stories and atmosphere of PS games more. there's no reason to come out swinging with "nintendrones, haha!" when there is actual valid criticism to be had on both sides. terms like that just make you look like a smug bastard and around here you'll get more shit for being a smug bastard than you will if you're just genuinely criticizing something. you got "attacked" with the same exact thing you were doing.

i'm hoping for a new version of the switch that's beefed up, i'm sure nintendo has been working on it for a while now. make no mistake, it won't be some crazy powerhouse of a console, but it was never meant to be. it's meant to play games portably, and so there will be some concessions to that. if you aren't a portable gamer, maybe it's not for you and that's okay. honestly, it doesn't matter too much if the PS5 is super powerful if you can't find it for retail price (which is just increasing anyway).

i still think you're missing out on a lot of amazing games by just dismissing nintendo entirely. i think having the switch is great as a side system. i don't know anybody that owns JUST a switch. they're relatively cheap, they're easy to get a hold of, and there are a lot of really awesome games that you won't find anywhere else (unless you're emulating on PC but that comes with its own issues of course hahaha). i don't really want to buy a ps5 for $500+ just to play ratchet and clank. maaaaybe if the new silent hill game is exclusive permanently i'd think about it, but in this day and age i doubt that.

i still love PS1/PS2 era playstation. it's just obvious to me that the gameplay has not been as much of a focus since then, which is where my interests mainly lie. the ratchet and clank remake and infamous second son were fucking awesome though.
