open worlds are kind of killing gaming for me, not gonna' lie. why does every single game these days have to be open world?

i'm still excited for tears of the kingdom and starfield, but only because tears of the kingdom is the sequel to one of my favorite games of all time and starfield seems like it will be fun to just roleplay in.

i think that's where open worlds actually work. role playing. where the story is way more about the world and the emergent gameplay that comes out of it, rather than a story focus with a player protagonist that isn't customizable and has a voice actor.

i really just want games that are short, tight, refined experiences again.

@beardalaxy Open world games often feel like nothing more than a very large overworld level select hub with mini games
