prison doesn't exactly get a company's money back to them so that's why the fine exists. it can be good for other crimes but if someone stole something from me i wouldn't want them to just go to jail, i want my shit back or to be compensated for it lol.

the debate ought to be around how much he's being fined, not necessarily if he should have been fined or not. did nintendo really lose 10mil because of this dude? who knows but probably not. they may have lost 10mil in like, perceived value or some shit like that. but it's clear they at least missed out on some money since there were people who were literally paying team xecuter to pirate games. if someone pirates a game it's usually because they can't afford it or they wouldn't have bought it in the first place, but if you pay to pirate games then you could have at least afforded one of those games so it gets a bit more sketch.
