@justnormalkorean @Shadowman311 2023 is the year that any and all game optimization just went straight out the fucking window. if you need a 1080ti to play starfield at minimum settings that's just fucked.
@memeextremist @justnormalkorean @Shadowman311 I'm gonna play it on game pass day 1 just because I think it'll be funny. But I don't actually buy the game until it is stable and there are some serious mods for it.
@memeextremist @justnormalkorean @Shadowman311 this is why, despite Nintendo being shit with their consumer relations, are still such a celebrated game company. They make really good games that work when they come out and they have been doing that ever since the first Mario game.
@memeextremist @justnormalkorean @Shadowman311 they're not just mediocre, they're all really fucking good games. is there a 1st party mario game that isn't insanely polished and fun? i don't mind if i'm playing "the same game" over and over again, if it's more of the same good thing i see that as an absolute win. clearly, a lot of other people do with the ongoing resurgence of retro-inspired indie titles that just take the same thing we have seen time and time again but refine it further or introduce some small new things here and there.
bethesda has the community aspect right, with a few blunders along the way but they have the right spirit at the very least, but their games are just blech. very ambitious, but unrefined.
nintendo is the opposite. it frequently seems like they actually hate their fans. however, their games are incredibly refined, especially given the hardware they run on.
at the end of the day, i'd still rather play a good game from a developer i know doesn't give a shit about me, than a bad/broken game from a developer that claims they give a shit about me but doesn't actually deliver a solid product.
@Zealist @justnormalkorean @memeextremist @Shadowman311 they hate their fans because they see them doing stuff with their properties that they feel entitled to. they're worried about brand image and that a game that comes out from a fan will either be bad and leave a poor taste in people's mouth, or it will take money from their games and their sales. why would you play mario 64 in the 3d all stars collection when you could play a remake someone made in unreal engine on pc that is superior? they're very stingy with stuff like assets as well, and this is why fan games don't exist as much as romhacks do that use either the assets available in the game already, or they import ones that nintendo doesn't actually own.
the antithesis to nintendo is ZUN, who lets his games, characters, music, everything, exist in the public conscience and be used however people want to use them. because of that, it is the only game other than minecraft to have its own convention (i believe it actually has two).
bethesda is somewhere in between the two, obviously they probably wouldn't let someone make and sell an elder scrolls game completely independently, but they're totally cool with mods and even mod creators getting paid without them seeing a dime. they know it is the lifeblood of all of their games.
