Alright I need some advice with my game.

There are plenty of doors that don't have anything behind them. Most doors aren't like this, but for the ones that are I don't want to put just a blank room behind them because it's a waste of my time and the players'.

So right now, the doors like this just display a message that says "It would be pointless to enter here." I would like, however, to visibly display this so that players don't even have to click the doors. It would make it immediately noticeable if a door cannot be opened.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could change visually? I don't want it to be glaring, like a big red X on the door or something that would be annoying, but I still want it to be noticeable. Maybe a small red X, or making the door a slightly different color or something.

@beardalaxy Something I’d picked up on in video games when I was younger was that doors which weren’t intractable were totally flat, just a part of the texture on the wall. All the intractable ones had some geometry to them be it a door frame, hinges, or a knob. Not much help at long distances but up close it’s something you notice whether subconsciously or not. Of course this assumes the art style can tolerate flat doors.

@Coyote it is a 2d, sprite-based game so can't do that unfortunately.
