@Mr_NutterButter I've got a friend who remembers this, although for him it was more or less a "whatever" kind of thing. He was just chilling and realized he existed more or less. I mean this is coming from a guy who potty trained himself though so he's an interesting fellow xD
I definitely did not have this happen. Watching these family VHS tapes back, most of it I don't actually remember even if I was like 14. On the other hand, I have some pretty vivid memories from preschool. I oddly don't remember 9/11 whatsoever despite almost being 6, but I do remember being 4 or 5 and doing various things in preschool. They aren't just memories of being on autopilot either, like I knew what I was doing and what I was thinking about and the emotion attached.
So it's not like I feel I ever "gained consciousness" or something, it's mainly been a rolling thing. There are moments where I'm acutely aware of myself and some where I'm totally detached, even now.
This is somewhat related, but there's a weird thing I have where I'll play a game I haven't played in a long time or watch a movie I haven't seen in a long time and have no memory of certain things that end up affecting me way more. The Last of Us is a prime example of that. I played it when it came out in pretty much a single sitting and I don't remember a single thing about the game from that other than the actual environment I was playing the game in (unfinished basement on a CRT). I was 17. When I played the remaster a few years later that's when the game's story and everything actually really HIT me. However, without looking at exact dates I don't remember the actual environment I played it in off the top of my head. It's interesting what we latch on to depending on tons of different factors.
