@Dicer @justnormalkorean for a lot of people, the rules are the fun. otherwise, they'd join drama club. the rules are what makes it a game. hell, i even like nerfing my characters on purpose to make them more interesting.
@Dicer @justnormalkorean more of an annoying player than a bad one probably lol. there are way worse examples of bad players than that.
@justnormalkorean @Dicer usually, bad player = bad person. you can be bad at playing d&d if you just kind of like suck at tactics combat or something i guess, but most people when they refer to "bad players" are talking about people doing shitty stuff.
things like fudging dice rolls, cheating on their character sheet, insisting that their character can naturally break the rules because they're a god or something, or getting pissy with the DM that they can't have things their way (usually in this case it's stuff like OP homebrew).
it gets worse though, there are people who like make weird, awkward, even sexual advances toward other players in the game and just generally make people feel uncomfortable. i've heard stories of people getting physically violent over their characters dying and stuff.
@beardalaxy @justnormalkorean @Dicer I was gonna say charging ahead of the party and opening doors but I see we meant objectively bad.
@badneighbor @Dicer @justnormalkorean yeah doing stuff like that, being a murderhobo, that can lead to an annoying player if the rest of the party isn't in on it. they only turn into a bad one though if you talk to them about it and they still don't change their behavior.
i had a campaign collapse a little while ago because two of the guys playing didn't really care about their characters all that much and would just constantly get the party into needless trouble. when i was doling out in-game punishment for it they quit.
@SpurgAnon @badneighbor @Dicer @justnormalkorean the law caught up to them and they got arrested and were going to go to trial for their crimes lol. of course there would be a way out of it, i wasn't gonna' game end it there, but they were annoyed they got caught lol.
How is that a bad player?
All this tells me is these people have not dealt with players who don't even care about their character to keep their character sheet around.
