So I found out about this game recently, called YARG: Yet Another Rhythm Game.

It's basically a Rock Band clone. Only thing really missing from it right now is online play and leaderboards. It's open source and looks super cool. I've legit spent the last like 7 hours getting a bunch of Rock Band songs downloaded and extracted and such. Maybe by the time it's ready to play everyone in the house will be awake xD

It's actually got vocals too which makes me super happy, being a singer. I actually have Rock Band to thank for really getting be good at singing in the first place and building up my stamina. I used to do the Endless Setlist (every song in the game) singing on Expert just for fun lol.

I have every instrument too so there is finally a game I can use all of them on! Hopefully I can get some peeps together to play it soon.

@beardalaxy It's nice to know that there is still a cult fanbase for these types of games, even though I have no interest in them.

Frets on Fire is another open-source Guitar Hero clone. It was written in Python using the Pygame library, which I use to use. It's also played with a keyboard instead of a guitar.

@xianc78 @beardalaxy I need to try out yarg now that they have pro keys support. I started playing rock band 3 again last year. Yarg looks great, and it will be awesome once they have leaderboards. It sucks that the rock band 3 leaderboards aren't around anymore.

@Rocket @xianc78 scorespy for clone hero is getting shut down over some bullshit drama stuff and a plastic guitar player named Acai was talking about YARG being the future of the genre. seems about right!

they do have a mockup of leaderboards that they plan to implement at some point, i'm guessing the main focus is on the game itself right now which is fine. but they plan to have the ability to have scores as bands too instead of just solo which is cool.

@Rocket @xianc78 frets on fire is what i played back in like 2010 or something lol, i still remember that dude jurgen yelling at me in the tutorial xD was fun to play back then, but definitely not very polished haha.
