aethy is being shut down because the people who run it are paranoid about trump shutting it down or some shit. this is why e621 banned human lolisho recently too. i don't understand this at all. where has he made it clear that he wants sites shut down??? you can't just say this shit. all that i've heard is that he wants to restrict social media access for children, and anything beyond that is wild conspiracy.

if anything, the hope is that the trump admin can follow through on their promise of working to remove online censorship. which would, ideally, include putting pressure on payment processors who decide what people can buy. i know that actually DOES affect artists in a meaningful way.

Follow

the sad part is that it doesn't seem like any of the users have this same thought, since they are all looking for other similar places to migrate to. if you were of the same mind, you'd probably just quit instead, right?

@beardalaxy I'm sure the e621 thing had more to do with payment processors given their hosting situation revolves around having ties to Bad Dragon.

Aethy on the other hand is a reminder of one of the greatest flaws of many groups that aren't mainstream online: they will fold under the slightest pressure that in this case is literally a fear. Especially when it comes to people who shouldn't be in charge of these sites being in charge.

It's why I don't feel any new art site would work out not being federated given how often owners of these sites will fold for any reason. Be it cohost's death or art sites removing stuff.
@beardalaxy The other problem with hosting art online is you're going to run into the issue of Group X does not like Y eventually, and they will be militant in ensuring they will not use the site if Y is hosted and hiding it isn't enough as one said.

But also if you pander to Group X they will not use the site anyway, etc. The end result is what we've seen: everyone goes back to Twitter.
@jeff @beardalaxy i'm sure the bsky users will when they eat bans for no reason or they find out that the utopia is very paranoid.
@jeff @beardalaxy Those people are gonna run gaming into the ground even more now that they have nobody to call them fags online

@PurpCat@clubcyberia.co @beardalaxy@gameliberty.club oh that's where you're wrong. we CAN call them fags online and they can't do a gd thing c:

@PurpCat @beardalaxy @jeff didn't they run away from the fediverse because of the lack of control. They ran to bsky which has censorship tools that makes twitter at it's peak look like they were playing in the kiddie pool.
@PurpCat @jeff @beardalaxy this guy reminds me of skitzos like are0h and that shizzy the gawd nigger, people that nobody cares about so they have to invent a headcanon where people that have never interacted with them are opressors.
@beardalaxy @PurpCat @jeff You can be an art director at obsidian and still be low status. The pattern of engaging in self destructive actions in response to imagined slights or emotional projection is the domain of low status people and the mentally unwell. It is the same energy that gave us "owning the libs" by acting depraved and the many examples of people that resorted to self-mutilation and decades long grudges because someone didn't reply to their DM.

@PurpCat with e621, i thought i read that they were worried about something in project 2025 or whatever. but maybe i'm misremembering and it was a user saying that instead.

@beardalaxy @PurpCat I do remember recently browsing some e621 pics and saw a few artists were just arbitrarily putting anti-Project 2025 warning paragraphs in their art, and then people in the comments who were saying it was kind of uncalled for when they just wanted to fap happened to be banned for some reason. Can't tell why, but I dunno, strange that people with years-old accounts get banned so soon after making that kind of comment... :meru_shrug:

It seems really extra easy the past year or two to just get banned on e621 for innocuous comments, like more so than was the norm. Things only get worse, I guess.
