I just had a daydream and realized that the next step in pushing digital ID is to use them as an alternative to captchas.
we need a super-efficient system like a mandatory card reader that reads a government ID, which everyone needs anyway

@apropos @xianc78 i wonder what the feasibility would be of something like, you put your driver's license ID number in to a website and it sends a signal to some government service to check the DoB on the card correlating to that number. it can then send a signal back to verify that the person is above 18, or 21, or whatever.
i would say you could just verify with credit cards, since you need to be 18 to get one, but that FURTHER incentivizes credit which i don't think is necessarily a good thing. i think the wrong people would benefit from that kind of requirement.
@beardalaxy @apropos Bryan Lunduke of all people proposed a solution involving physical cards that you buy at a gas station or some place like that. They would have a serial number that you can enter on a website to prove that you are a human or over 18 while still protecting your anonymity.
