I just realized that part of why my roommate might be having a little bit of trouble with movement in ocarina of time is because he's using an Xbox controller and those don't have the physical octagonal gates that N64 and GameCube controllers do. But he's way too stubborn to use one. These zoomers, man.

@beardalaxy i never played OoT on a non-Nintendo controller, what kind of issues does it cause not having those gates?

@pettanko I don't know for sure, but I know a lot of older games kind of rely on those specific joystick positions for things, like walking up slopes at a specific angle and shit. I'm almost certain it wasn't an issue when I've played it with the Nintendo controllers in the past but there are some points where it takes him several minutes to get up a slope.

@beardalaxy I remember it being a big deal in RE4. Those octagonal gates were like the limit of the deadzone before you started turning, it was very consistent and quick to control. I remember getting the PS3 port and hating it because it lacked those gates and I think they messed with the deadzone, turning felt terrible compared to the original.

As for slopes I don't know. I remember having issues with that slope at the end of the Water Temple sometimes, I don't remember if it was a difference between ports or what.

@pettanko that monkey ball remaster has the same problem, gotta mod it and play with a gamecube controller for it to feel like the original
