it's hard for me to take any of the "content" updates in minecraft after the end dimension seriously. like, nothing they added is required to beat the game. you can still do the same exact shit you always could. i am more interested in the technical stuff, like changing world generation or adding raytracing (which still never actually got added). modern minecraft is a bloated mess imo.
@beardalaxy Notch said on his blog that selling Mojang to Microsoft was not about the money, but rather about his sanity (all the drama surrounding Minecraft including the then-recent EULA controversy). If he didn't care about the money, he could've just open-sourced it, and if it was public domain, Microsoft could just create their own proprietary fork while everyone else can enjoy open-source Minecraft.
