I really don't understand how Discord has been adopted everywhere as a community alternative... is everyone braindead or something?

@keisuke It combined IRC, Mumble and a BBS without having to worry about managing all of this stuff, not to mention the program being cross platform. Mobile support definitely helped in mass adoption.

You could probably list all of its negatives until your fingers fall off, but "it's easy to use" and "everybody else uses it" are hard to beat in the minds of normies, braindead or otherwise.

@colahpse @keisuke yeah there is 0 chance I convince all of my friends and a bunch of modding projects I'm interested in to use some obscure message system that still has quirks and isn't on every platform. I had a hard enough time getting people I knew on Facebook to join a discord server for my game dev stuff. Most of them didn't come over so I actually had to make a fake Facebook account to keep in contact with them.

@keisuke I refuse to use it because it's sketchy, and people get banned for no reason frequently
