What's up with this meme of fireworks being bad for the environment? Are you telling me that not firing fireworks is going to have an effect on the environment when planting 20 million trees won't?

I think it's less of an environment issue, and more of a problem that the smoke persists in the air and is bad for your health. Although I doubt it could have a major effect on someone unless they had asthma or something similar.
Maybe one could argue that the metals used in fireworks pollute the soil/water, but I don't think any of the materials used are especially toxic.

Not bad... not bad... This year, a fellow Romanian thought it was a good idea to put a lit firecracker into his mouth. Suffice to say, he didn't get to see 2020.

Yes, but ours are quite smaller than shotgun shells. A medium one is about the size of a AAA battery, and there are even smaller ones. Also, bigger ones usually fire 2 or 3 times.
The news story wasn't very specific about the size, or what exactly he did with the firecracker. But from how they describe the damage, it sounds like he put it entirely in his closed mouth.

Obviously the machine malfunctions after firing one firework.
Obviously the guy decides that the best course of action, while drunk and in front of people, is to go and fix it but manipulating the device himself.
And of course the machine fired all fireworks at once, blowing off his head in front of everybody. 😕
