This is something of an anachronism. It was popular up until the 90s to say so because of a paper written in I believe 1987 about statistical differences across race being minor. But this paper is no longer considered by serious scholars because it used an outdated understanding of genetics. I am aware that people in the media still claim this, i think out of hope or ignorance, but the position has no intellectual merit. There is no such thing as race about as much as there is no such thing as hills.

If you had to guess the personality of twenty girls, with a prize of a million dollars, and were given the choice of either you have no information, or you have information of their appearance, would seeing their appearance give you a better chance of winning?
I think so. You can look at clothes, you can look at weight, etc. You can guess income based on how expensive their clothes are. These can give you some insight. And you can see the rest of the argument from here.
