@matrix 5 minutes in and he admits that the prison system is not about rehabilitation because it "simply doesn't work" even tho across the ocean it works absolute wonders in lowering the crime rates. this individual is very much aware of the prison system being a legal and easy way of enslaving people to do labour which creates capital for whoever is manufacturing prison goods. the prison system works, for capitalists.

@matrix @tsumi Prisons are bad because capital punishment for serious offenders and corporal punishment for minor offenders are more cost-effective. At least that's how the only remotely persuasive prison abolition argument I've heard goes.

@matrix @ArdanianRight @tsumi most rape accusations do not end in conviction. And since we're already in fantasy land where we replace incarceration with flogging and executions let's say that the punishment for wrongful accusations matches that of conviction

@matrix except it isn't because incapacitation only temporarily brings down crime rates until a new generation of dysfunctional people caused by the lack of adressing of core issues arises which may or may not be even more efficient in doing crimes since they learn from the past especially if their relative is in prison.

It's been consistently going down in for the last 30 years, that's plenty of time for the criminals to have kids and the kids to reach an age at which they are the mostlikely to commit crimes

@ArdanianRight @matrix genetics only dictate a predisposition not a manifestation of behavioral traits. you'd know this if you knew what you were talking about. people may have a predisposition for certain behavioral patterns but nurture mitigates or even completely denies the outbreak of them.
@tsumi @matrix If nurture were as or more powerful than nature we'd see it pop up at least some of the time. Maybe if we're talking about growing up in a first world vs. third world country environmental differences there would be more of a point, but you don't really see it show up when it comes to gaps within first world countries.
