@matrix yeah, my friend from the Netherlands is currently learning to drive there, some of their road laws are pretty wacky honestly in terms of right of way… they stop on roundabouts!!!

@Arcana @matrix Huh no? Unless you mean having to stop for bicyclists and people on crosswalks when getting off the roundabout, but that's just an extension of normal traffic rules (when turning across a bike path, you gotta wait for cyclists)

@vijf @matrix >Unless you mean having to stop for bicyclists and people on crosswalks when getting off the roundabout

Yes this is what I mean, stopping on a roundabout seems very silly as they are meant to keep traffic flowing

@Arcana @matrix But doing it this way lets cyclist traffic flow a lot better, which is also important when looking at it from a non-car perspective

@matrix@gameliberty.club Yeah people abroad don't seem to understand that both good car infrastructure and walkable cities can exist at the same time. Like it's a dilemma and you have to choose?

@SuperDicq @matrix i would hate to see american pick up trucks in the netherlands though

@NeonPurpleStar@outerheaven.club @matrix@gameliberty.club You see them sometimes on the road as there's some ultra rich boomers who import them from the US, but thankfully they are quite rare and people who have actual jobs drive vans instead.

@SuperDicq @matrix @NeonPurpleStar Aren’t the trucks used by farmers over in the NL? (As the protests last year have hinted)

@james@pl.starnix.network @matrix@gameliberty.club @NeonPurpleStar@outerheaven.club Like seriously if you don't have "fuck you" money you don't buy an American truck here. Have you seen Dutch fuel prices?

@SuperDicq @matrix @NeonPurpleStar Reminds me of seeing european-sized SUVs in Japan and being like: How do they even drive, the street are smol!

Then few years laters: American-sized SUVs are getting stuck in the one-way streets of my city.

@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me @matrix@gameliberty.club @NeonPurpleStar@outerheaven.club Thankfully Dutch vehicle tax is also based on vehicle weight class which really incentivizes people to buy smaller cars.

@SuperDicq @matrix @NeonPurpleStar Which makes a lot of sense. Heavier vehicles means roads being used up more if not damaged more, more pollution, …

(No idea how vehicule taxes work here, I don't need a car)
@lanodan
@SuperDicq @NeonPurpleStar @matrix
In europe its often weight based, but it doesn't go far enough judging by the amount of SUVs in cities.
