@matrix zoomers had similar but minecraft. millennials had almost all of the 'technological advancement' in gaming and computing up until recently (ryzen, etc)
@LukeAlmighty @matrix >php

WOW!!! Now, that is a nostalgia explosion.

You have NO IDEA how many of my childhood games were sponsored by becherovka :omegalul:

A different era I guess

@graf true, zoomers who were born in 99, 00 experienced extreme stagnation in their teens with ps4, xbone and intel quad cores and compared to that we're seeing massive improvements now,
however the live service model wasn't in full swing yet so they still got more games

@matrix dont you love that everything is a live service game now that will die immediately when they dont have 10k users a month

@graf love it /s
we also can't forget the shitty sequels and remakes, both movies and games

@matrix the good news is i might be too old and with family to enjoy fallout 5 or TES6 now that the latter has been in production 12? years

@matrix @graf
Exactly. Games like Phantom pain or Witcher 3 look more breathtaking, then anything from the modern slop. Not, because we lack technology, but because skill is no longer being selected for.

@matrix @graf kids these days will never know the joy of growing up with a nintendo DS and a flash cart

@VD15 @matrix unironically just ordered a migdumper so i can share my entire library with my gf. i have the migswitch already but im concerned with her getting banned from playing online available backups. so i will copy my games/grab some from the library
@matrix a jump from ps3 to 4 wasn't that impressive either. And ps2 to 3 was late millennials already
@matrix Remember when you could get a lot done in a year and a lot of things could happen?
@Professor_Groyper @matrix Back then, I didn't have a back-breaking job sapping all of my energy and interfering with my ability to get a good night's rest.
Though these days, if I am sufficiently incensed about something, I can destroy or otherwise dispose of plenty of things. Good for spring cleaning, ethnic cle-err, uh, baking cookies. Yes.
@matrix Back when you had to upgrade computers, etc, because there was actual technological advancement.

Now you just do it to make some asshole more money.
@BrokenSword @WTFPurpleAlpaca @matrix I swear these fucking kids have never played game that required notes or mental thoughts!
@Sweetie_Squad_Liquidator @WTFPurpleAlpaca @matrix Deductive reasoning has steep biological hardware requirements, after all.
@BrokenSword @WTFPurpleAlpaca @matrix Today I will get my apple 2gs out and get the fucker running and play games on FLOPPY DISCS as god intended!
@matrix I dunno my brother is zoomer and does nothing but play flight simulator and fortnite or watch YouTube videos of other people playing flight simulator or fortnite
I was 1st into games in the 80's. I've seen games evolve from games like Zork, and Pong, to Ultima and Doom, and up.
First machine was an Apple IIe. 128kb of RAM...ya 128kb. And a 1Mhz processor.
I still have that machine. Way back I got it upgraded to an 8Mhz CPU, and 1 MB of RAM.
Been upgrading machines and parts ever since.
Had one of the first 3D video cards, A Voodoo.

But ya, in the last 20 years I've only upgraded machines twice. Last one was in 2020. Meh, it takes a while before games start to get to a point where they won't work, or work well enough that I feel that I need to upgrade. Not like the old days. I went through a lot of upgrades and machines before that. I also go all out when I buy one, so it lasts longer.

I switched to Linux in 2020. No regrets. :)
Only games that don't run are some of the online ones with the crazy anti-cheating. Eg. Fortnight, COD. I don't play those, so I don't care. Everything else runs as well or better than on Windows.
