The core of the point is that it seems he's not actually done anything against any CoC, the organisers have let them travel there and then arbitrarily decided "we don't like you so you can't come in".
This kind of arbitrary decision undermines the rules, because it makes clear they're mostly just there to appease people who want rules, but it's ultimately down to the whims of people who are there liking you or not, for *whatever* reason that may be, and it may be opaque.
I don't want to go to events where I don't feel safe, even if I'm following the rules, just because someone doesn't like how I run, for example, freenode, or my day job. The "whatever" above is also really dangerous, because once we tolerate the whims of organisers, the need to justify those whims becomes less and you end up kicking people out for silly (at best) and discriminatory (at worst) reasons.
