Oh one other thing i hear get thrown a lot is as such. Think this one was from a [[white]] journo:

"White people containerize, Black people Internalize"

That line always came off as BS to me, since control of emotion is dictated by discipline and conscious control.

Mainly think that because I remember a time as a kid where strong emotion could just let loose, as I simply had no comprehension on how to temper them.

As for traumatic events though, all people internalize. It just seems to be a matter of what kind of event.

@milo @_p @realcaseyrollins Yeah. Also, if white people didn't internalise then I don't think white guilt would hold so much sway in the public opinion. Internalising is one tactic that humans have to help them survive situations they are in, especially when they don't have control over what is happening to them. It is worse for little children who hold even less control compared to the adults around them.

@sim @_p @realcaseyrollins That's the crap part about the mind. It's easy to pick things up and never remember the context around why it's a good or bad thing to have.

@milo @_p @realcaseyrollins Yeah. This is why it is important to be able to re-examine your beliefs every so often, so that you can find out which ones are working for you to keep and which ones aren't, so that you can either tweak them or discard them in favour of something else.

@sim @_p @realcaseyrollins and it's also important to at least hear people out after a period of time, because either information changes or beliefs become invalid.

@milo @_p @realcaseyrollins Yeah, they can change over time. I think that it is important to be selective with this but it is also important to listen to those you are close to. Give them that space to have their opinions, to voice their needs and preferences. All the good stuff that we forget to check in with people on or take for granted. People need that space to be themselves.

Though it's probably petty when it's say an incendiary crime that had incomplete information is grounds for never speaking to someone again.

Yeah. How many are them can be explained by how humans are hardwired? The more I look at how I respond, the more it makes sense given my own experiences rather than being something wrong with my brain. Like how else do we expect brains to react to trauma?

I actually wasn't aware that she had made a singular statement, I don't really follow her 😂 She's the kind of person I'd expect to have talked about this 24/7 since the riots tho. But I've been hearing lots of black voices saying the same thing in the wake of #JoeBiden's statements.

It's like they don't realise there is diversity here amongst voices and concerns they'll have. Nobody has the exact same experience, although sometimes it is similar but from their own perspective.
