@thor@mstdn.social @alex @shampoobottle @georgia That's a fair point. Even in the olden days of Bible times, men traditionally wore robes, and in the NT such garb was referred to as a "skirt". I'm not entirely sure when things changed, or why.
I suspect that skirts and dresses were assigned to women to prevent the oversexualization that skinny jeans and booty shorts inevitably brought.
@shampoobottle @alex @georgia IDK about the clothes...yes, a lot of it is marketing, but a lot of it is cultural too. The clothing companies could change how they market dresses, but the culture would still view it as a female clothing item.
