Psychology trick that works because I use it
If somebody is trying to get to know you and asks you about yourself, but you want to ask the other person about his or herself, say relatively little about yourself. If you have five hobbies, mention only two or three.
Firstly, this will cause the focus to leave you quicker than usual, so that you can ask the person about his or herself like you want to.
Secondly, it allows you to have more topics to bring up later if the conversation dies down, and when you reveal more skills and hobbies about yourself, it makes you appear both cooler/deeper, and humbler, because you didn't mention it before.

If you disagree with someone, say you disagree, not that they're wrong.
This makes to discussion philosophical and not personal, and it will keep the other person from feeling personally offended.

It makes people like you more, and makes people more likely to help you, because they'll like you, and feel indebted to you, but since you couldn't help them all the time, you're not invincible.

@realcaseyrollins you could probably implement this as a mastodon client bot without messing with the server code itself.
Have it monitor the local timeline and pipe it to spamassassin. If a message scores too high (i.e. likely unwanted content), the bot can fire off a report. If you gave it mod privs, it could also silence the user or post pending a human mod looking at it.

Seeing a transwoman cry and expect and get caring because somebody said a mean thing is them having male privilege.
Women don't get to do that at all. If we cry we get verbally abused for crying in itself and made fun of and then seen as weak. And treated like garbage for being hurt. And nobody cares. At best I've have my tears treated as horrifying. And most women know how to stuff their tears due to decades of this crap. And our tears and hurt usually come from the actions of men, including trans who scream "TERF" at us for no reason (more male privilege).
This is one reason why trans women aren't women and never will be. They refuse to self-silence like real women are forced to and they are treated with kid gloves like we never are.
People who are offended often demand that you take back whatever it is that offended them. They want to make you responsible for their feelings. Perhaps them being offended all the time is about wanting to control others.
