so, yes, it's about my perception that his instances are oriented towards transphobes, but it's also not necessarily *immediately* about that, but also about the big picture. the gentrification started with Mastodon, and it ends with the right-wing transphobes.

just as in real life (examples: burningman, oregon country fair, etc), things that were once a quirky space with quirky people being quirky and having fun, has been replaced with boring people and their boring inane bullshit

but at the same time, I do find myself frustrated with the fact that @alex is looking to adopt the software i worked hard on. it does hurt, because of what his instances represent to me. and obviously, that's a personal thing, so trying to get others to understand it is probably not so easy. but when i think about it, i'm honestly gutted.

and yes, people say "well you published code on the internet, what are you expecting."

and, that's true. but not everything comes down to pure logic with me. sometimes, i can be unhappy about a situation, and change my mind about continuing to maintain software as a result. and so telling me that publishing free software is not without risk that it will be used in unintended ways is pointless. i understand that the remedy is to stop doing that, and that's the remedy i took.

and that's really the thing, what @alex's instances represent is the final nail in the coffin of the fediverse's gentrification. now all the key groups have found their way here from proprietary services, and our fediverse of queer hippie spanish communists trying to liberate Catalan have been pushed out of the neighborhood. a death by a thousand cuts.

and really, and I know this is sentimental bullshit, but, the whole reason Pleroma has notoriety is because back in the early days we didn't take any shit and we told things as they were.

then over time, things became more about mitigation and maintaining good PR in the greater fediverse.

we started colluding with Mastodon to quietly mitigate security holes, because things became serious.

Pleroma today is not the rude, crude, name-taking project it once was. for most, this is probably a good thing, but, honestly, thinking back on it, as we guided Pleroma towards maturity, i feel like we erased a lot of what gave Pleroma character in the process. even the branding has been toned down over time.

and, at the same time, his instances were basically the final straw for me. that part was true. maybe he thinks he is trying to do something positive with them, but i am unable to understand it. maybe someday, the great hare will help me become enlightened about their purpose.

but this place hasn't felt like home to me for a long time.

the reality is that Mastodon gentrified the fediverse, and then Gab showed up and bought all the new multi-million dollar houses.

Pleroma on the other hand was always meant to be a trailer park filled with trailer trash. that's what made Pleroma great. then MFC came and gentrified that, and gave Pleroma funding and Pleroma developers employment. which is arguably great for Pleroma. but, strangely, I for one liked the days when Pleroma was buggy as fuck, because dealing with the bugs really gave the community that trailer park feel.

i guess, really, Pleroma was the friends we made along the way.

i will admit that i was probably a little too harsh on @alex earlier, but at the same time, i find many of his instances to be quite frustrating.
