Hello, world!
Making a new account here since my last mastodon instance kind of died.
Minor programming language nerd, in particular #rust and #haskell these days.
Also interested in #opensource, #freesoftware and #freehardware.
they use triangulation, a tad bit more than trig as the antennas are generally not highly directive (they are partly directive or omni).
If your really curious I can run you through the math though.
Stingray devices are more about intercepting messages than radio location.
But any only who has direct control of information from a receiver (such as a stingray device) can radio locate.
Thing is the accuracy is going to be pretty low unless you have multiple receivers.
To give you an idea a single receiver if you know the exact power output of the transmitter will only roughly tell you the distance the transmitter is from the antenna, it wont tell you what direction. With multiple antennas spaces a distance apart from each other (cant all be in one small location) you can start to narrow that down.
So generally they will have a hard time, especially in an urban setting where signal reflections are high, to pinpoint an exact location. But if they just want to know "were you on this particular block at this particular time" they can probably figure that much out.
@kroiseroid then all your homies are cool
How to more safely protest in a pandemic https://www.vox.com/2020/5/31/21276082/george-floyd-protests-coronavirus-risk-safety
I think there is a large portion of those rioting and looting who are white. But even they were largely rioting against other whites.
There is a large portion of the left who see whites as the "bad race" and that includes fellow whites.
@freemo
Again, I disagree with the "largely by race" take. Both races rioted together, looted together. I would say it's a class thing and sadly the upper class is more white.
I don't understand why it's a class thing too. Maybe if we add up the pandemic deprivation and economic situation of the poor it would make more sense.
In my opinion they are multiple groups pushing multiple agendas.
@realcaseyrollins
@freemo Not that, I mean none of my friends really follow politics or current events. Like, at all.
One of my closer friends just votes for whoever her dad tells her to. She voted for #Trump in 2016, but didn't even know that he was a #Republican 😂 She didn't know if her dad was a #Republican or a #Democrat either, she had to ask him on the spot, lol
@freemo @vnarek Is #BlackLivesMatter really involved? I haven't done too much research, but I hadn't noticed any evidence that they were doing much.
Officially, of course.
@PorkCow I have a soft spot in my heart for on-the-ground reporting. Beyond the one incident where the #CNN reporters were arrested (TL;DR they were where they weren't supposed to be, opting instead to play dumb and not move, pretending they didn't know where the officers wanted them to go), I haven't seen much from the #MSM, including #MSNBC and #CNN, that made me upset. On-the-ground reporting is the best reporting, IMHO.
#AriVelshi in particular garnered more respect from me (and I already respected him based on how he treated #KenCuccinelli during an interview), as he's the only news anchor I've seen brave enough to actually go down into the midst of the protests.
I've moved over to @realcaseyrollins for my private account
