@sean It depends on what your motivation is I think. If you have a strong design idea I think it would be better to fork. If you're more interested in a particular technical solution then I think building from scratch makes sense.

Might sound counterintuitive to fork something that looks nothing like what you want, but my experience is that your time is either spent stabilizing things on designing. Soapbox FE was already completely designed when I started and it still took me 12 weeks just to stabilize it.

@sean Just fork an existing one. You can DRAMATICALLY change the look and feel of it with CSS changes and minor markup changes. This is what Gab did to Mastodon's frontend and it's a really different feel.
