Basically prior to 1099 AD the land was inhabited by both Palestinians and Jews and from about 900 AD to 1099 AD they continually fought for the right tot he land, specifically Jerusalem.
In 1099 the Isralites lost and the Palestinians took over Jerusalem. From that point onward Israel was a Palestinian country, so for the thousand years since then it has been mostly exclusively Palestinian.
then in I think it was 1947 the "Partition Plan" took away the land considered the sovereign nation of the Palestinians and gave it back to the Jews, even though there were no Jews that had lived on that land in hundreds of generations and thus displacing countless Palestinians at the time.
