@AtlasFreeman @Brianoflondon @bigl0af I keep wondering how long before people start really challenging ICANN's monopoly. DNS is not a complex protocol and the jump to HTTPS DNS is a real opportunity to create some user choice.

Have you ever heard of OpenNIC? It's an alternative DNS root that's been around since the early 2000s. It might be the solution you are looking for.

@xianc78 @AtlasFreeman @Brianoflondon @bigl0af It's not just about having an alternative. It's about seeing people embrace the idea of choosing their DNS systems.

@leyonhjelm @AtlasFreeman@liberdon.com @Brianoflondon @bigl0af
It shouldn't be that hard for most people. All you really need to do is change settings in the control panel. A simple tutorial can help them out. Also, OpenNIC has a clearnet proxy.

@xianc78 @AtlasFreeman @Brianoflondon @bigl0af That's not what I said at all. I'm fully aware of how easy it is, I'm saying a push towards encrypted DNS might be an opportunity to popularize alternatives.

@leyonhjelm @AtlasFreeman@liberdon.com @Brianoflondon @bigl0af
Well you need to explain to them how to do it in order to make it popular. I bet most people don't even know what DNS even is.

@xianc78 @leyonhjelm @AtlasFreeman @bigl0af DNS over https is just as centralized. It doesn't fix anything.

Come join me on Hive if you want a decentralised platform.

@xianc78
Ever hear of namecoin? Seems like that would solve decentralized name resolution nicely in theory. Ever try it out??

Yeah, I heard of it. ZeroNet uses it for domains. Last time I checked they only have one TLD (.bit).
