I find it ironic that Sakurai never intended Smash to be a competitive game and it's the most competitive game out there. I understand why he regrets making Melee.

@xianc78 @ArdanianRight @wowaname @dielan I also don't get Melee fans acting like Nintendo somehow owes them for showcasing a dead game, on a dead console, that Nintendo no longer cares about and that doesn't show off any of the new characters or games that Nintendo DOES care about. All Melee does is drain attention and players away from the competitive scenes of newer Smash games, and since competitive Melee is so autistic and grindy, competitive Melee players are often Melee-only.

Smash Ultimate player Salem got a lot of shit for saying that Melee elitists aren't Smash fans, but I'd argue he was right: Being obsessed with Melee and hating the majority of Smash games doesn't make you a Smash fan.

@wowaname @ArdanianRight @dielan @xianc78 They should just make their retro content legally available, that's what really pisses me off. The Switch should have pretty much all the major first party N64, GameCube and Wii games available through the Virtual Console by now, but instead we got got the Stinky NSO NES nostalgia service.

That's my only shred of sympathy for the Melee crowd, Nintendo absolutely could and should have made Melee available on the Switch by now.

They want a native HD port of the game so it could look better when played on big screens without the delays you get from upscaling. I don't know how they set their consoles up during these events but I guess this is why they want it.

@xianc78 @wowaname @ArdanianRight @dielan It's worse - they're ridiculously stingy about their retro content in general. Which is why you can play Final Fantasy VII on the Switch, but not Ocarina of Time. Resident Evil 4 is on the console, but not Paper Mario: TTYD. You can play Skyrim on the console, but not Mario Galaxy 2. And on it goes.
