@bebe @7ScreamingDizBusters The Atari 2600 also used hardware sprites. The Halo 2600 homebrew used a hardware sprite that was meant to be used for a ball in Pong to create Master Chief's face.

And when I think about it, it's amazing to realize just how mich work went into making Metroid Dread as similar to the original games as possible by limiting the gameplay to exactly the same formula, and making every single object and animation fit the original 2D world as well as possible...
But hipsters didn't notice that one. strange...
@LukeAlmighty I still find it jarring seeing 3D objects limited to 2D movement though.
