@animeirl 5k for a trashcan in present day present time, they're actually mad

@netdoll @animeirl I have never seen a single person owning a MacPro. Every desktop Mac I see is an iMac. Rarely do I see a Mac Mini, but it's usually used as a home theater setup.

@xianc78 @animeirl My gf owned one and used it as her main computer throughout the early 2010s

@netdoll @animeirl If you want a Mac that acts like a traditional PC just build a Hackintosh (yeah I know that it's no longer an option, but it was back in 2010).

@xianc78 @animeirl Pretty sure she did switch to a Hackintosh as her next machine, but Mac Pros of that era are pretty good hardware so I can definitely see the appeal.

How? They always seemed on par with mid-range PCs at best.

@xianc78 @animeirl Maybe raw specs, but the case design and ergonomics are really nice and they're built like unironic tanks.

@netdoll @animeirl Ironic coming from the company that is probably the most known for planned obsolescence.

@xianc78 @animeirl They were never particularly out of the ordinary about it until the success of the iPhone.

@netdoll @animeirl Phones have always been meant to be replaced every ~2 years, and that is mostly due to cellular network giving you a free upgrade.

@xianc78 @animeirl Yeah, difference is nobody really tried applying the 2 year contract model to computers in earnest until Apple decided to capitalize on their success as a lifestyle brand stemming from their phones.

@netdoll @animeirl Laptops are still repairable if you buy a good one and not some shitty netbook, but anyone who isn't using a netbook, cheap laptop, or MacBook is probably a PC gamer who is naturally going to replace his gaming laptop when newer AAA games make it obsolete.

I'm actually trying to keep my current laptop for as long as possible. It's already outlasting my previous laptops and I recently replaced the fans. When the time comes, I'm either going to get a System76 or Framework.
